To quote from the SuSE manual (v. 6.2, p. 247):
If the configuration of your soundcard was successful and you want
to automate the loading of the drivers, you can put the following
command:
/usr/lib/oss/soundon
in the file /sbin/init.d/boot.local
assuming that you have installed OSS in the /usr/lib/oss directory.
