Hi list,
anybody out there running an Asonic Gold sound card? It features the ALS 120 chip
which is not in the list of OSS/Lite or ALSA drivers as far as I can tell. I got
the sound card to work using OSS with any of the following drivers:
Creative Soundblaster 16, 16 ASP, VIBRA, and Pro.
However, it looks like it is running only at 8 bit resolution rather than the
16 bit it supposedly offers. For reference, see the output of
cat /dev/sndstat

I saw on open sound's web site that they offered beta support for the ALS 120.
I guess I have the following questions:
1. has anyone succeeded in getting the Asonic Gold to run at 16 bit resolution
with ALSA, OSS/Lite, or the standard kernel settings? If so, please, share your
configuration.
2. has anyone gotten it to work with the commercial OSS? How well does the beta
driver work for the ALS120 chip?
3. Is there a simple way to check the sound output and compare between 8 and 16
bit?
I have to admit that I am a complete newbie to sound-related stuff, never having
had to use it in my work, and even for my home-system not overly concerned about
it. It would just be nice to get the 16bit card working at 16 bit rather than
at 8.
