Cheers Jon, that makes sense.
So how does one know which manufacturers are using low spec' components? I've
never seen engineering level reviews in the generally sycophantic computer mag'
reviews.

For a video card, other factors include the manufacturing process of the
chip itself, the quality of the other components on the board, the quality
of the assembly itself, how well the components handle heat, and how
well-tuned the drivers are.
