From my own experience (two bad Riva's and one bad Banshee), I'd advise
that you stay *far* away from Creative's products. The Savage is an S3
Savage4 chipset, which is not supported by XFree86. Diamond seems to be a
little safer, but thier TNT2 Ultra's don't have anything other than SVGA
output, and they tend to be more expensive than Creative.

My Banshee runs pretty good under X, and I can only assume that a V3 (same
core chipset, basically) would only run faster. Voodoo (all 3Dfx products,
actually) development is slow because there is only one man who does all of
the work.

I like nVidia. Like I said before, nVidia has developed an excellent X
server for the XFree86 project, and assuming that the people who build the
chips actually know how they work, the nVidia server would be the one to
use. The ultimate card, I hear, is the TNT2 Ultra that Hercules produces.
I've never seen one, I just hear that they're the best.
