I've had my share of LILO problems (I gave up on it on this machine ran a
different loader). I have just about memorized the errors. :-)

To quote the SuSE manual (pg 106 in my 6.1 version):
"'LI' The second step has been invoked but could not be started. This can be
due to a faulty disk geometry or to moving /boot/boot.b without reinstalling
LILO."
