you'd need the space anyway. And vmware (with 6.2) is limited in runtime. I'd
look for a partition that is below the 1023 cylinder limit. Not sure wether you
can use "fips" for repartitioning, the commercial "partition magic" will work.

I hope I can keep my system clean...

Not realy. get a partition below 1023 cyl, make it the "activated primary"
partition with M$ fdisk and format it. /can probably be done with linux fdisk as
well). With the old and unwanted Win 95 upgrade start the win 95 install without
prior 3.11, when it asks for 3.11, insert the disks and change the directory to
A:. Feed it a few disks it asks for and continue your install.
Be aware that win doesn't like any OS besides it and overwrites the MBR, simply
boot the rescue system and rerun lilo after adding the windows bit.
(had the opposide effect last week: for demo purposes I installed a minimal
linux on one machine and our NT sysop had real trouble getting rid of lilo until
he tried fdisk /mbr. Loved it)

Other choise, get an other harddrive, make it primary (remove the proper one),
install Win onto it, make it slave, and tell lilo to boot dos/win from hdb1.

The tricky bit is repartitionating and formatting the *right* partition with
dos, the rest should be easy.
