Subject: [SLE] Newbie and modem problems

Hi Linuxers,
I have been using SuSe 6.1 for sometime now but have still not managed
to successfully connect to the internet. I have got all the necessary info
from my ISP to set up the connection but I cann't get pass my modem.
When I try to connect, I always get either

Sorry kppp's helper process just died. Since a further execution will
be pointless, kppp will shutdown now.

or

Sorry modem is busy.

My modem is plugged in a PCI slot and under win98 has port 0x3e0 and
irq 10. I used setserial command under linux to set these parameters
because the defaults (for the serial ports as seen by the BIOS are
0x3F8 and 0x2F8).

Attached is further info for the linux gurus to come to my aid.
