Thanks to all.  Found the flex rpm on cd1 under the suse/d1 directory.  I
noticed two things that changed that caught me on this installation:

1. This flex/lex thing.  Still not sure what option through Yast I should have
picked. I think this might a be default change from 6.1 selection.

2.  SuSE has gone back to the xdevl package being not selected by default. 
Under 6.1 it was selected by default.  Just make sure to check!
