8i doesn't run on 6.1, you need 6.2.
Instructions for installation are on the way - Oracle just made a patch
that I have to test, go to technet.oracle.com and read about it - without
that patch (or mine - which is now obsolete and therefore won't be
published, but I posted a lot on the technet Linux forum) you will most
likely be unable to install 8i anywhere (on any distro) unless you're an
expert.
