Yeah, know what you mean. The good news is you can marginally improve
the fonts in WordPerfect 8 for Linux, in the freebee version. The bad
news is that it will take a wee while.... Follow this link.

As these WWW pages point out, to get the excellent fonts, you pay for
em. I am holding off for when they release the whole suit & then I will
buy it. In the mean time, it is a bit of an ugly look. :-(
Now, about starting xfstt up. Here is what I do. Cut & paste the
folling into the end of your file, "/opt/kde/bin/startkde"
xfstt --res 144 --sync
xfstt --res 144 &
xset fp+ unix/:7101
do this before the following lines occur.
#
# finally start kwm; finish when it's ended
#
exec kwm
Now, fire up X, & you should be away laughing! :-)
