linux as a mail server & cc:mail?

Currently mail is retrieved from an ISP that does SMTP forwarding. The
connection is a rather sad dial-up using a doze95 pc. The retrieving being
performed by lotus' smtp gateway software which dumps the mail on to an NT
server running cc:mail. All e-mail clients on the doze95 desktops are cc:mail.
There are two problems with this current set up. 1. The gateway freezes
occasionally which has tends to leave the line open, including all over the
weekend. 2. The NT server gradually gets itself in a twist over the course of a
couple of weeks, (starts lying about directory authority and prevents users from
logging on). The only solution is a reboot, hardly an ideal when people require
the files/mail). Basically a typical m$ environment.
Now I know the SMTP side of things is doddle with linux. Does anyone know
whether cc:mail and linux (sendmail) can be integrated? Or is it a case of
starting again with different clients etc, in which case nothing will probably
be changed.
There is also a requirement to scan for viruses on both incoming and outgoing
mail.
I've got the SuSE 5.3 dist', and 6.2 is currently on order.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
T.
