This is a well-known problem. Get diald-0.99 from <A HREF="ftp://unix.diald.ch"><A HREF="ftp://unix.diald.ch</A">ftp://unix.diald.ch</A</A>>, build it
yourself and install on top of diald-0.16 (so as to keep your configuration
files).
Also, rebuild your kernel, get rid of the SLIP support and substitute ethertap
support in its place (diald-0.99 can use either but the ethertap proxy is
cleaner and more efficient). If you build ethertap as a module, you might need
the following line in /etc/conf.modules:
alias tap0 ethertap
You don't need to create a /dev/tap0 device though.
