[SuSE Linux] Linux reading Xenix tar format 3.5 floppy disks and 150Mb tape.

Hi all
I have tried this post a few times from work's machine but it does not
appear to have posted so I am trying from my home machine. Sorry if
it has appeared more than once.
I am in the process of converting a system from Xenix to hopefully
Lunix and have been playing with SuSe. The Xenix system uses
Foxplus. I plan to replace Xenix with Lunix and Foxplus with
Flagship. My main problem I have at the moment is getting Lunix to
read the tar format Xenix 3.5" disks. Is this possible or am I on the
wrong track. A secondary issue is to get Linux to read 150mb Mountain
5.25 tapes and get it to acknowledge the tape drive. I have not yet
plugged the hardware in but the compliance database is silent of this
tape drive. Considering the popularity many years ago as the defacto
standard for Xenix/Unix tape drives I was hoping Linux would support
it.
Anyway any suggestions or help even if it is "no sorry will not work"
would be greatly appreciated. The message I got when trying to read
the 3.5" was along the lines of "UM does not appear to be a valid
format".
Here's hoping for a replay. Thanks
Brett Russell.
PS could you email me direct as well as to the group as my new place
of work does not handled the volume of mail from SuSe very well. Ok
it is a Microsoft shop but it pays the rent.
Thanks.
