[SuSE Linux] SuSE 6.1 Xserver configuration failures
- From: lingerhouse@xxxxxxxxxxxxx (David Hattery)

Having played with Linux for several years now, I wasn't expecting the
frustration and difficulties of getting X running under SuSE 6.1 on two
computers. The one that I have worked hardest on is a Dell Latitude XP
laptop. SuperProbe correctly identifies the chipset and video ram, but
neither XF86Setup or SaX have given me a successful video installation.
During SaX, I get an error log that indicates no valid modes were selected,
but I have selected the 640x480 8 bit color mode to configure. It has a
mysterious entry that the 640x480 has been deleted because it needs a hsync
frequency of 31kHz. This seems to be within the range of the LCD display
setting under SaX.
Any help will be appreciated.

In hopes that someone else has conquered this problem, here is the
