[SuSE Linux] Does my modem work on linux?

Good people,
I have an eMachine computer and it uses a modem I never heard of
before. An HSP Modem.
Is that an WinModem? I've got a hunch it is, because they brag on it
being a soft modem, what
ever that is. I figure a Software Modem.
Some kind of guidence would be appreciated.
