I have the exact same problem with my system now.
Printing to my HP DeskJet 695C has ceased. Apsfilter says I have lp0 
but it doesn't work at all. Not sure if this is 2.2.7-SuSE related ?

 uname -a
Linux wdm 2.2.7 #5 SMP Sun Jun 6 17:37:30 AKDT 1999 i586 unknown
