Hey Josh!
Thanks for setting me straight on this pppd business!
I logged into root and added my user name to the dialout group.  Then I
took the suid off of pppd.  When I logged back in under by user name and
fired Kppp it triggered pppd without any problems.
I've had it set wrong all these many months....  I guess I'm still in
the rookie class.
