and what does the group think about this mess: gpp is installed but seemingly lost! Here's the disastrous ending:

g++ -s -o wvdial wvdial.o wvdial.a ../configfile/configfile.a ../streams/streams.a ../utils/utils.a
/usr/i486-linux/bin/ld: cannot open crtbegin.o: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [wvdial] Error 1
make: *** [subdirs] Error 2

But check this out:

bash-2.02# locate crtbegin.o
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/2.7.2.3/crtbegin.o

o it's somewhere...
helllllp!
