I got my first start with Slackware with release 1.1 about
4 years ago. I couldn't get X to run at all, but I did
discover Midnight Commander. That was worth it.
I did like the way they set it up to allow installation
through a set of floppies. All .tgz files too, no rpm's. :-)

I was reading somewhere on the suse web site about the
history of it, and it seems that Suse is a "descendent"
of Slackware.
