Mutt is an excellent choice, even the version that comes precompiled
with the SuSE distro. Fact is, I dropped Netscape for Mutt. Be aware
that Mutt can download mail from a POP3 server _without_ needing fetchmail
(assuming that the POP3 option was selected at compile time; true for
the SuSE version).

You can then get mail whenever you connect to your ISP. If you choose
to use fetchmail, you can also just run it as a command without the
daemon mode whenever you connect.

However, you'll still need sendmail, smail or another MTA to _send_
mail from Mutt. If you use smail, save yourself a world of hurt and
start with the smart host option.
