Install Wine. It will run plenty of Windows products. You might want to
read up on it first as it may not be exactly what you want. Wabi is a
commercial product that runs some Windows applications. Dosemu is another
program you might want to look into. Read the docs, cause you have to do a
few things to set up both Wine and Dosemu.

Linux supports networking.

Running Linux is an excellent beginner's title. It's fairly inexpensive
and easy to find. I could probably have used such a book when *I* first
started.
