Some win32 software will run under the WINE emulator, but it
is "hit and miss"; and tough for a newbie to master.
Alot of win31 programs run under WABI, which costs $50.
I use WABI to run Agent(newsreader), and a few other win31
programs. It is limited to 256 colors, and no sound, but
runs fast.

You should run linux as your network software, since it is the
best network software available.
You can use it as a user to do mail and browse the web, or as
a server to be a "provider". Netscape has a linux version.

You get apache for a web server, and ftp server, and anything else
you care to set up.
Samba lets you connect between win95-98-NT machines, but better
yet is NFS, which connects linux machines.
