All a "Standard Distribution" would be is an agreement amoungst gentleman to
follow a set of guide lines when making a distribution. There is nothing
compulsive. Anybody would be free to make a distribution that doesn't follow
the "standard". But if the majority of distributions agree to follow a set of
guidelines, the big software giants (and the little guys) can know what to
expect from these distributions and write code accordingly without haveing to
write a seperate package for each distribution. The "standard distribution"
would be more of an "accepted practice by the big names in Linux"
