I just subscribed to this ML today. I'm currently running RH5.1 (have
been since 4.2).
I've been interested in SuSE since I found it's X-server to work better
with my video board. But, I'm not familiar with it beyond that.
I'm planning on getting a new hard drive soon. At that time, I wanted
to give SuSE a test run.
So, the questions?
1. What does it take to install it? I get the ftp site but, without
knowing the layout of the diectories I can't be sure of what I really
need and what I don't. RH puts all of the necessary files in the RPMS
directory, except for a few in dosutils. How does SuSe lay it all out?
2. Since this is only going to be a test to determine whether or not to
buy a cd in the future, how much of which directory(s) do I need to get
ppp, mail, news, etc? I already found the X stuff.
3. Is there someplace where it's documented about the install process?
4. What configuration tools (X and console) are required to add users,
set up ppp, tweak the system, etc?
I guess that's it for now. Thanks for any help (list or private)
anyone can give.
