After you establish your connection, try pinging one of the
nameservers with:

# ping 11.22.33.44

You may not be really connected yet. If you are not really connected
yet, you will have to debug your PPP connection. The best resource for
this is the PPP HOWTO version 3 by Robert Hart. It should be in your
distribution (and may have been updated by now).

What is wvdial? Is it part of the SuSE distribution or one of those
GUI thingies that are going around? Note that most ISPs do PAP/CHAP
authentication as defaualt to be compatible with Windows95/NT.
If wvdial has a way to configure that, you probably won't go wrong
using it.
