Two observations:
1. Using the term "engineer" invites problems with those states (e.g.,Texas) where one cannot hold oneself out as
an "engineer" without having met specific standards re formal education, supervised experience, and passing an
examination prescribed by the a State board (In Texas, the State Bd of Registration for Professional Engineers sets
the stds). I've read the Texas Bd has begun enforcement against one MSCE for calling him(her?)self an "engineer."
2. Caldera's certification will only mean whatever Caldera makes it mean, regardless of whether it stands for
broad Linux qualifications or something else. That being true, who cares whether others create competing
certification schemes that are broader or narrower or mean more or less in terms of knowledge or experience. I
think we can be well-served with one or many. Later, if there are several, those qualified may hold more than
one, or we may see mergers of certification programs.
Regards,
Jep
