I'd try your initialization string. Call up minicom... type in this exact
sequence and see if it gives you OK or ERROR

AT&F&C1H1L2S9=15

It seems your modem is responding ERROR to it and if it's Hayes Compatible, the
extra newline shouldn't make a difference at all.
