There are different types of "plain text". Some programs may just get
confused. The following is what Pine (running in Telnet on Win98) told me
about that message.

[The following text is in the "iso-8859-1" character set]
[Your display is set for the "US-ASCII" character set]
[Some characters may be displayed incorrectly]
