I'm using the commercial version of S.u.S.E. 5.2 and I have a question
about upgrading. I understand 5.3 will be available in the US in several
weeks, but I need to understand the procedure, so if you know the answer,
please respond.
Several weeks ago, the SUSE site made upgrades to 5.2 available. I don't
recall the size, perhaps it was 70 meg or more. I downloaded them at
work, put them on a zip disk and brought them home.
I moved the contents of the zip disk to /upgrade. / resides on /dev/hdc2.
I shut the system down, booted using the suse install diskette, and when I
reached the point of selecting the media, I selected hard drive partition.
When prompted for the partition, I responded /dev/hdc2. When prompted for
the directory, I responded /upgrade. It responded that it was unable to
locate the directory. I tried several variations on /upgrade, upgrade,
but nada.
BTW, /upgrade contained directories like /upgrade/a1, ...
How do I upgrade a system when the source is on a hard drive partition?
Thanks,
Gary
