Hmm..have you tried the obvious and replaced the startfile with your
favorite homepage? By default that value is
STARTFILE:file://localhost/usr/doc/packages/lynx/lynx_help/lynx_help_main.html
or
STARTFILE:<A HREF="http://lynx.browser.org";><A HREF="http://lynx.browser.org</A">http://lynx.browser.org</A</A>>
Maybe <A HREF="http://lynx.browser.org";><A HREF="http://lynx.browser.org</A">http://lynx.browser.org</A</A>> was down when you tried or you are missing
/usr/doc/packages/lynx/lynx_help/lynx_help_main.html.
This is defined in /usr/lib/lynx.cfg
