Hi David-
Start up yast and set up you printer from there. yast uses apsfilter
which is a must have if you plan on printing postscript, graphics, etc.
Or if you're a masochist, you can set it up manually. Writing a
/etc/printcap file isn't that hard with dotmatrix printers. To find
where your printer is located, simply send a small ascii file to it like
so:
# cat filename > /dev/lp*
ubstitute 0, 1, 2... until you find it.
I used to have a panasonic 24-pin printer and I have used it under Linux
(slackware to be specific). I only printed plain ascii text with it, so
I don't know if my setup was capable of printing anything more complex
like postscript.
I've only set up my laser printer via yast and it works great. I don't
have any experience setting up a matrix printer through yast though.
Just choose the printer that most closely resembles yours, or one that
you printer can emulate. I believe that my printer could emulate the IBM
proprinter and an Epson something-or-other.
Luck,
Mark
