[S.u.S.E. Linux] Printer id

Since my install of SuSE 5.1 - when I go to send a file to lpr - the
printer just gives a reset - no other signs of life. There is only one
printer on the system, it's on the paralell port and it works fine when I
restart into DOS or Windows. The books and HOW TOs that I found say to
edit the dot file .profile by the command export PRINTER=xx
My problem is where to find a list that gives me the xx for a given printer
model. All I could find was postscript=ps
Failing a list, any of you know what to call a 24 pin Panasonic? Or is
there an easier way to reconfigure this?
TIA
Dave
