Hi Chris,

Well after the last post it sounds like some folks are finding some other good
ways to get the sound out of an AWE64. OSS is a commercial app for sound.
See it at <A HREF="http://www.4front-tech.com";><A HREF="http://www.4front-tech.com</A">http://www.4front-tech.com</A</A>> and there is a FREE version and the
commercial one available. One of the other users on the list has his 
working without OSS though, so you might want to ask him.

Following the excellent advice I've received right here at
'suse-linux-e@xxxxxxxx':

I've re-compiled my kernel for sound, and using 'isapnp', I've got my
Creative Labs SoundBlaster AWE32 PnP soundcard working without using the
OSS driver. (this works for the newer AWE64's also, per testimonies)

The benefits are:

        1) better sound
        2) RealAudio 5.0 works flawlessly

The OSS driver is flawed as far as RealAudio 5.0 is concerned.  For all
of the posters who have been suffering from the "it cuts out after only
about one second" RealAudio 5.0 syndrome, this is the answer!
