Try adding "115200" to your /etc/ppp/options

I recently installed Suse linux 5.2 ( my first linux
experience) and thanks
to
the help of many of the messages to this group I was able to get PPP
working. The problem is that it is my connection is too slow, when
I ping
my ISP I get pings of around 400ms! when I ping from the same computer
from NT ( I'm writing this from work)I get pings of around 120ms .
The odd thing is however if I first use minicom , disconnect then
connect (either by chat script or kppp) the connection is much improved
with pings at abut 170-190ms, still not as good as my NT but at least
something
to work with. I suppose I could do it that way forever, but I think
you
would agree
that that's not very elegant.
My modem is a USR X2 internal , not setup as plug & play (com2 irq3).
So far I've tried playing with initialization strings, that helps a
tiny bit
but not enough. Obviously minicom is initializing some thing that I
am
overlooking. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure this out but
as a
Linux newbie , I'm having a hard enough time with just the basics.
