Hello, its me again

  I can't seen to get cron jobs to run from root.  I find the
following references soewhat conflicting.  Could someone please advise
as to what I am doing wrong.

SuSE Linux 5.1 page 157, Section 11.2, last paragraph
~~; additionally you must insert after the time setting, under which
user the specific order should be handled.

  This is new! Please give me an example of what that means.

SuSE Linux 5.1 page 276 Section 17.7 2nd paragraph
~~This can be done by editing the cron table via
CRONTAB -E being 'root'; you should enter the following line:
7 05 * * *     /usr,.... Command to run

This is what I have done, while root, using the command crontab -e
0 8,23 * * *    /usr/bin/saytime
The problen is, it doesn't run and I get no cron messages at all.

I have a cron job running as a user which get mail and it runs fine.
It was also made using crontab -e.

Troubleshooting
/etc/rc.config    CRON=yes

/sbin/init.d/boot
# The following script is executed at boot-up and also from a
# cron-entry
# # in the early morning. So your system should be checked often
# enough.
# #if test -x /root/bin/cron.daily; then
# #       /root/bin/cron.daily
# #fi
# 

I have done all I can for now.  Please advise as to how I can get root
cron jobs to run.
