When I say xhost + in a local shell I get the message: xhost: unable to open display "<name-of-box>:0.0"
I also tried to do "xhost <name-of-remote-box>" with the same result. The display name is set correctly (as printenv says).
This is very urgent, for we need to open windows from other, remote boxes on this machine. Without that, it can't be used. :-(
Have you considered using xauth? It's simple: http://www.acm.uiuc.edu/workshops/cool_unix/xauth.html Basically do localmachine$ xauth list <localmachine>:0 MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 13a4d9e3a85d1de86662153ff8d9a51a [more lines] remotemachine$ export DISPLAY=<localmachine>:0 remotemachine$ xauth add <localmachine>:0 MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 \ 13a4d9e3a85d1de86662153ff8d9a51a HTH, Ingo -- Ingo Strauch ---- Registered Linux User #227900 (http://counter.li.org/) http://www.the-one-brack.org/
