Have you considered using xauth? It's simple:

  http://www.acm.uiuc.edu/workshops/cool_unix/xauth.html

Basically do

localmachine$ xauth list
<localmachine>:0  MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 13a4d9e3a85d1de86662153ff8d9a51a
[more lines]

remotemachine$ export DISPLAY=<localmachine>:0
remotemachine$ xauth add <localmachine>:0  MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 \
13a4d9e3a85d1de86662153ff8d9a51a
