Community,
as announced earlier this week, during the opensuse-project meeting on
Wednesday, the launch of our new English wiki at wiki.opensuse.org has
been postponed and we're now targeting the 12th of July as a public
release date. The same applies to the German wiki instance at
dewiki.opensuse.org, whereas no new official release date has been
scheduled yet for this particular language wiki.
Since the 1st of October 2009, I served as the Project Manager of
these community efforts, sponsored by open-slx. From my very personal
perspective, we achieved a whole lot so far with the Wiki Project and
we're not too far away to present something really awesome to the
openSUSE community. We reviewed the major parts of both the English
and German wikis in order to meet the quality standards we defined, we
put a lot of efforts into our new, for now temporary, wiki instances
in order to improve the presentation of content and to make them a
better place for both contributors and readers of openSUSE
documentation resources.
That said, I'm really looking forward to the final launch of the new
wikis and I pretty much hope that the whole openSUSE community will
feel them as a major improvement to what we had before we got started
with this concept 8 months ago. Let me take the opportunity to thank
everyone involved out of Novell, open-slx and the volunteering
community (both out of the wiki and forum teams). It has been a
pleasure to work with you.
For me personally, it's the right time to step aside as I need to
concentrate my workload on other open-slx projects. The release of
openSUSE 11.3 is right around the corner and we currently have a tight
schedule in order to come up with an awesome openSUSE Box Product. The
major work with the Wiki Project is done from a Project Management
perspective and thus I herewith handover the lead to my fellow Board
collegue Henne in order to complete the wiki efforts from a
technical/administrative perspective.
That said, I'm certainly still available for Public
announcement/Marketing fuzz tasks once the wikis are ready for general
consumption (if desired by the team) but unfortunately I need to stop
my active engagement as of today due to the announced release shift,
the conflicting tasks due to the openSUSE 11.3 release and related
open-slx internal tasks I need to take care of.
Thanks,
R
