Subject: Re: [opensuse-wiki] What will happen to Wiki after June 1st. ?
From: Matthew Ehle
There is only one IP address for www.opensuse.org and the entire wiki farm. We are using Named Virtual Hosts to determine which site is served. Specifically, we are using VirtualHost Alias to serve the wiki farm. None of the sites have the 'name' of the IP Address, which is why you get the error when trying to use it. For more information, you can reference the following:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/core.html#namevirtualhost http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mod_vhost_alias.html
Thanks for the clarification, Matthew.
Since there is only one DNS entry for everything, that leaves us a lot of flexibility in how we handle the old English wiki. We can decommission it completely, move it to another name, or simply remove the VirtualHost entry, but leave the content 'just in case'.
That's because I asked the question: How can we reach the contents which only exist in the old instance but are not transfered to the new instance after June 1st.? I don't think the transition will be 100% completed until end of May and maybe we need to transfer additional contents from the old wiki to the new wiki after June 1st., or at least we need to refer to old contents occasionally.
