This is the answer in discussion on http://en.opensuse.org/Talk:Wishlist_Gnome Here is transcript: >> more categories is good idea, but desktop list will bring more >> problems than it will solve >> 1) lists by desktops will be huge and that is directly against your goal, >> to clean them up. > > 1) the size doesn't matter as long as it's readable, the old wishlists > were such a mess, devs and repo maintainers were more likely discouraged > from reading it than being overwhelmed They did look at, for sure. The FATE, feature tracking system, is closed for non employees, so the only way to propose new features, which includes new softare are various wish lists on the wiki. >> 2) it is irrelevant division, application will run, if it has all >> libraries, on any desktop. That is OK. The problem is that application should be listed in all relevant lists. That is asking for maintainer to keep all in sync. For developer was easier to have one page, even in a mess and look diff to find what new was added, than to check 2 or 3 items that are the same. The same is valid for users. If they select right category, though :-( IMHO, wiki is not good medium for feature/software requests, but for now we have to live with it. >> 3) where to put applications that will run on any desktop, as long as X >> server is running > > 3) any other wishlist should do just fine for non-desktop specific apps, > the Gnome/KDE wishlist is only meant to serve a certain type of package > requests, you can already see some examples on both lists. OK. >> 4) where to put applications that need no desktop. > 4) --> 3) -- Regards, Rajko. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org
