Sure it makes sense. It, being the software, only knows what the developers tell it. Wordpress only uses Acceess Manager for authentification to the admin interface. Somebody would have to integrate wordpress further...
Well, sure, the software only knows what the developers tell it. But the users are like the software in this regard - they only know what they're told about how the software works, and there's nothing on the main page that says anything about logging in not being required in order to comment.
There is no way to comment on anything on the frontpage. There is a comment field below every article and that one OBVIOUSLY requires no login.
To sum it all up: All the functionality is there. Users can comment. Someone should integrate wordpress more into our infrastructure....
To me, the situation is this: A user, currently logged in the forums or bugzilla or any of the opensuse sites under the same authentication infraestructure, goes to the news site. Nothing there says that it is not controlled by openSUSE, as it is news.opensuse.org He wants to comment on an item, and he sees he has to enter a name and email. What? I'm already logged in. Let's try to loggin again. So he does - - and he gets a new prompt that asks for a login/pass to Wordpress instead. What is this? He is bewildered. So he pops the question on the forum. Jim comes here and asks in his stead, on the project mail list first. Soon the second password prompt is removed (thanks). The login to attachmate remains - but does nothing, just a bad redirect: +++··············· The page isn't redirecting properly Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies. ···············++- When this happens on the forums, we tell users to erase all opensuse, suse, novell, and attachmate cookies. So I do, and retry. But no go, I still get the bad redirect error here: https://news.opensuse.org/wp-login.php?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fnews.opensuse.org%2Fwp-admin%2Fprofile.php&reauth=1 So I'm stuck. Nowhere does it say that you do not need to login to post replies, nor does it say that login at opensuse does not allow you to post replies, either. Nowhere does it says that you always need to enter name and email, despite being logged in to opensuse.org. It is not obvious to me at all that no login is required to reply, as the page has on top the common opensuse.org login entry, the same one the forums use. Actually, nobody at the forums told the OP that no login was necesary, so probably nobody knew. Even less does it say that you need to be in certain list to be able to create "news" items -- it is normal that the list exists, but not that the login page does not inform us). All this happens after this news entry: https://news.opensuse.org/2014/08/14/opensuse-news-team-needs-your-feedback/ which brings new people to notice the site (it was posted on the forums). So people do... and find problems. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
