I tried to make new layout of Czech wiki MainPage based on Template:Portal. I know, no other language wiki has this layout at MainPage, so what do you think?
Why did you do that?
Few reasons why one would want to change current static page: 1) To make page a bit more representative of activity that is not visible with static page like en.o.o. The project landing page is hardly any better once release hype is over. It still tells "It is November 16, 2011 ...". 2) To lower number of clicks to some important stuff, like download links. 3) First time visitors will lose contact with "Get it" after following "Discover it". I know where to find Download, but how good is top navbar in catching visitor attention? Not much. That is how it should be, so top navbar is not replacement for important links. Why attention to wiki main page? English Wiki is 4th most visited server in opensuse.org domain. http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/opensuse.org# Check Traffic tab. As of today: forums.o.o 43.55% opensuse.org 22.47% software.o.o 16.18% en.o.o 13.54% download.o.o 6.58% lists.o.o 5.95% doc.o.o 4.09% de.o.o 3.24%
... The wiki's main pages are not the landing page for the project.
It should be http://www.opensuse.org/cz/ :) Also, it is one of better kept secrets how to change that page :) -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-web+owner@opensuse.org
