builder="hvm" is for HVM, builder="linux" is for PV.

Yeah got it all sorted. Once I understood that PVHVM is actually HVM with PV extensions - not a PV guest. Not a lot of docs for Opensuse, but found mostly current examples on the Xen site that helped.
