Thanks. After downgrading xen packages I now have a working system again.

It had quite a fight though: I was not able to migrate one way even
tough xend-config.sxp was a copy from the working receiver machine. It
turned out that rcxend restart failed to stop the wrong configured
daemon. This was blocking the port so a new instance with correct config
was never launced.

Note to self: Read the b* log file
