Well, the survey shouldn't be seen as only the survey. Besides that I am doing
user tests and in conjunction with the survey various assumptions can be made
which can be assigned to usability aspects...
There is always a problem in addressing direct usability matters with an
online survey, because you just simply can't ask only "open questions". Doing
so there wouldn't be any chance of doing an automatic evaluation on the
results in the end.
There is little hidden usability although... By asking you to rate a specific
program in a specific area in matters of useness, etc. I get an overall
impression on what program most of you think is more or less more usable than
others, meaning also that that program has to do something good in terms of
usability otherwise you wouldn't use it. The point I can agree with you is
that the survey can't state which particular usability points a program is
good at. But I just couldn't see a possible way of asking such things in an
online survey, because that would have ment asking a serious amount of
questions. To get such more detailed answers there are other usability
methods such as : user tests, etc...
There are two open questions in the end anyway, where you can put it
everything you want to say about usability in general on Gnome and KDE.
I am open to advices on how direct usability matters can be addressed with an
online survey under the circumstances of not annoying the attendants too much
(eg. with lots of questions and at the same time keeping the survey as simple
as possible so that even "non-technical" persons can attend it).
I very much appreciate your statement on that,
Thank you
