hello list,
I think this question is security related...
Can I use acl's with SuSE 8.0?
The file-utilities exist on my box but when I use setfacl this error occurs: "Operation not supported".
Is a kernel patch required? Which filesystems supports acl's? Anybody could help me?
Neither 2.4 nor 2.5 mainstream kernel support ACLs yet. There exists an ACL patch for ext2. See http://acl.bestbits.at for kernel patches and more information. There is no other fs with ACL support for Linux I know about. When you have a kernel with ACL support, you also have to remount your e2fs with some special mount options. Again, see http://acl.bestbits.at You may want to have a jump start with http://acl.bestbits.at/steps.html Best regards from Bremen, Mit freundlichen Grüßen aus Bremen, Matthias Riese
