I'm setting up a squid accelerator box and I would like to know what is the best ^^^^^^^^^^^ do you which to use a port redirector (accelerator mode) for traffic intended for port 80 or a simple proxy server? In case you want the first solution you will get in trouble with basic authentification because your browser can't differ between the authentification request coming from squid and the website. authentication method for users logging in from the Internet. (i.e. encrypted username and password) encrypted username and password are a problem with basic authentification. If you want a high level of security a tunnel is certainly preferable.
