FYI: For yast1, type 'manual' when you boot SuSE 7.0 CD1.
*nod or yast1 works also...
YaST2 seems to really hate alot of video cards... maybe it's just all the video cards I have..lol Both my sparcs especially...

It's not yast2 - it's the kernel's linear frame buffer that is active during this stage of installation. We know that it sometimes doesn't work, but these cases become more and more rare...
