Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will try them all, though
whatever I have tried so far has not worked.  There do appear to be
problems with Kicq itself.  E.g., inter alia, I was able to use my old
ICQ#s even though i couldn't remember the passwords.  Don't know where
that problem lies.
