I think you have enabled Power Management in your Computer BIOS. Check the APM options you compiled into your kernel - may be you did something different since your last installation on 6.2 and now you are confusing your BIOS.
It turned out that even if my main bios setting for power-saving is set to off, it can still work. I set the main setting to 'user-defined' then set all the sub-settings to OFF and it's been running ever since.
