They do. They purchased Connectix (I think that was the name of the
company) years ago, and sell Virtual PC as well as their own Hyper-V

Pay the fee and stop arguing. *Nobody* is going to use a distro if
there's an extra hassle to do so.
There's more to it than just paying the fee. OBS and Studio are two
obvious areas where just paying the fee won't solve the issue.
Given that, I'd also expect that Microsoft would sell a virtualization
solution for desktops. Why should they lose revenue to VMware
Workstation and users to Oracle VM VirtualBox?
